COMMERCIAL HEAT TREATING
Improving reliability & part outcomes
IGE FANS has been serving the commercial heat treating industry since the industry’s early days in the 1920s and 1930s. From setting the industry standard for atmospheric carburizing fans with the PW-35™ in the 1950s to leveraging wireless vibration sensors to set new standards for equipment reliability, IGE continues to innovate to maximize process stability, energy efficiency, and reliability.
The right, high quality high temperature fans play a critical role in heat treating – from high-volume, continuous carburizer lines to vacuum nitriding. Inferior quality or incorrect fan selection can lead to inefficient operations at best and extensive lost production from unplanned downtime & excessive quality waste at worst. The role of fans is even more important where electric heating sources are being considered.
Leaders in the global commercial heat treating industry trust IGE FANS to deliver the right, high-quality equipment for many applications:
Carburizing
There are many carburizing processes including: atmospheric carburizing, low pressure carburizing (vacuum), plasma-assisted carburizing, molten salt bath carburizing, and pack carburizing.
Given the extreme temperatures, typically 1615-1850°F (880-1000°C), and potential for corrosive atmosphere conditions (e.g., endothermic), high quality, well-engineered high temperature fans are critical. Without effective atmosphere movement, non-uniform carbon potential over the parts can lead to ineffective carbon diffusion and quality waste.
IGE offers radial & axial wheels optimized for carburizing with a complete size range and reversible & traditional non-reversible designs. Paired with IGE’s innovative shaft sealing methods, high-quality fabrication, and 3-step precision-balancing process, our fan units can more than double the usable service life compared to common competitor equipment and significantly reduce operating costs and maintenance work.
Tempering
Given high temperatures, typically 600-1400°F (300-750°C), and the need to maintain tight temperature control, uniformity, and cooling rates, high-quality, well-engineered high temp fans are critical. At best, incorrect or lower quality equipment will lead to inconsistent process conditions, low energy efficiency, and elevated maintenance costs. At worst, such equipment can create real safety issues for your team and generate excessive quality waste & asset downtime.
IGE offers a range of axial, forward curved, radial, and backward inclined fan designs that are suitable for tempering processes of various scales and configurations. IGE offers innovative shaft sealing methods that ensure process stability, energy efficiency, and improved safety and offers both air-cooled and water-cooled designs.
Nitriding
Given high temperatures, typically 885-1150°F (475-620°C), and highly toxic, flammable process gases (e.g., ammonia), high-quality, high temperature fans are critical. At best, incorrect or lower quality equipment will lead to inconsistent process conditions, low energy efficiency, and elevated maintenance costs. At worst, such equipment can create real safety issues for your team and generate excessive quality waste & asset downtime.
IGE offers a range of axial, radial, and forward curved fan designs that are suitable for nitriding processes of various scales and configurations. IGE offers innovative shaft sealing methods that ensure process stability, energy efficiency, and improved safety and offers both air-cooled and water-cooled designs. IGE also offers direct-drive sealed motors that offer vacuum-level seal quality as well as innovative, positive-pressure-atmosphere seal enclosures to maximize atmosphere & process control.
Normalizing
Given high temperatures, typically 1320-1800°F (750-980°C), the common use of controlled nitrogen atmosphere, and the need to cool the load in a controlled manner to deliver the right material properties, high-quality, high temperature blowers are critical. At best, incorrect or lower quality equipment will lead to inconsistent process conditions, low energy efficiency, and elevated maintenance costs. At worst, such equipment can create real safety issues for your team and generate excessive quality waste & asset downtime.
IGE offers a range of axial, forward curved, and backward inclined fan designs that are suitable for normalizing processes of various scales and configurations. IGE offers innovative shaft sealing methods that ensure process stability, energy efficiency, and improved safety and offers both air-cooled and water-cooled designs.
Brazing
Brazing requires very tight atmosphere control given extreme sensitivity to any introduction of oxygen into the process. IGE's innovative shaft sealing methods ensure atmosphere and process conditions are maintained with capability to offer seal effectiveness typically used in vacuum applications. IGE also has solutions to challenges created by excessive flux build up and presence in the circulated atmosphere, including designs that enable on-the-fly rebalancing to maintain uptime in a continuous furnace application.
Annealing
From continuous, atmosphere bright annealing to vacuum annealing methods, high-quality, well-engineered high temperature fans are critical to ensure process control and optimal part outcomes.
IGE has production-proven designs with innovative shaft sealing methods. IGE also offers direct-drive sealed AC motors for use in vacuum applications, especially relevant to gas quenching.
Sintering
IGE has experience across a wide range of sintering applications and has innovative shaft sealing methods that ensure process stability, energy efficiency, and improved safety and offers both air-cooled and water-cooled designs. IGE also offers direct-drive sealed motors that offer vacuum-level seal quality as well as innovative, positive-pressure-atmosphere seal enclosures to maximize atmosphere & process control.
