HIGH TEMPERATURE FORWARD CURVED MULTIBLADE FANS

Large flow volumes against low to medium static pressures

Forward Curved Multiblade fans, also referred to as “Squirrel Cage” fans, are usually specified for large flow volumes against low to medium static pressures. There are other multiblade styles, including backward inclined, but IGE typically recommends forward curved blades as they deliver the same volume of air, at reduced RPM, compared to other styles & configurations. The reduced RPM is important as this yields lower stresses in the wheel allowing higher temperatures to be used for the air volume specified. The high temperature forward curved multiblade fan is very common in the metal heat treating industry for this reason, however if there is dust or other particulate in the air stream that could build up, a radial blade fan should be used.

IGE’s high temperature forward curved multiblade fans have been developed and refined over more than a century. They are suitable for continuous heavy-duty applications at temperatures up to 1780°F (970°C) and are offered in various configurations including insulated housing fans and cartridges. IGE offers standard designs from 100 CFM to >250,000 CFM with typical static pressures up to 16” w.c. and specialty designs that can deliver higher pressures if desired.

IGE’s forward curved multiblade fans are commonly used in the aluminum, steel, and commercial heat treating industries. Common applications include annealing, normalizing, tempering, and nitriding

MI-series high temperature multiblade fans

FP-series fans are available from 50 CFM to 32,000 CFM at up to 4” w.c. with 6” to 29” wheel diameters. Six temperature grades are available with a maximum operating temperature of 1900°F (1040°C). The shaft sizes and maximum overhang lengths have been designed for maximum life with trouble free operation. These fans are commonly used in the aluminum and steel industries with typical applications in tempering, annealing, and carburizing

FC-series high temperature multiblade fans

FC-series fans are available from 220 CFM to 205,000 CFM at up to 18” w.c. static pressure. Six temperature grades are available with a maximum operating temperature of 1780°F (970°C). Small units from this series are commonly seen in laboratory settings and larger units in many primary steel industry applications. This series was designed to be direct-fit replacements for legacy Garden City Fan Company equipment.

MWM-series and DA-series high temperature multiblade fans with integrated direct-drive sealed motors

MWM-series high temperature fan units are forward curved multiblade fan wheels mounted directly to sealed, direct drive AC motors (also known as ‘K-B’ motors under IGE’s Kaybee Engineering brand name) to deliver leak-proof operation, which is especially critical in vacuum furnace applications and dangerous atmosphere processes like nitriding. These units are available from 225 CFM to 23,000 CFM with operating temperatures up to 1780°F (970°C). These units are commonly seen in the glass industry and applications where there are significant space constraints.

DA-series high temperature fan units are also forward curved multiblade fan wheels directly mounted to sealed AC motors (‘K-B’ motors). This series was developed to provide the ultimate fan for annealing and nitriding furnaces. All the components were designed and developed to provide the performance, serviceability, and long life required in these severe environments. This line is available from 4,800 CFM to 11,000 CFM with up to 9” w.c. static pressure and operating temperatures up to 1,650°F (900°C).
