GLASS
High Temp Fans for the Glass Manufacturing Industry
High temperature fans and direct-drive, sealed motors play critical roles in both primary glass production and secondary heat treatment & forming processes to ensure final products achieve optimal material properties.
The right, high-quality high temperature fans ensure process stability, energy efficiency, and operational reliability to maintain product quality, maximize throughput, and minimize cost. Inferior quality or incorrect fan selection can lead to inefficient operations at best and extensive lost production from unplanned downtime & excessive quality waste at worst. The role of fans is even more important where electric heating sources are being considered.
IGE’s production-proven designs with innovative shaft sealing methods are particularly critical in the production of tempered glass and in other glass heat treating. IGE has been offering water-cooled, direct-drive, sealed motors suitable for vacuum-quality seal applications under the Kaybee Engineering brand name since first introducing the design & concept in 1955.
Leaders in the global glass manufacturing industry trust IGE FANS to deliver the right, high quality equipment for many applications:
Tempered Glass – Quenching, Tempering & Cooling
The production of tempered glass requires heating glass up to 1100°F (600°C) in a carefully controlled, even temperature distribution environment, soaking the load at the high temperature to ensure temperature uniformity, rapidly air quenching the glass to harden the exterior, then carefully cooling the glass down to room temperature.
Every step in the process is extremely sensitive to uneven temperature distribution and thermal shock and is reliant on effective convective heat transfer. The right, high quality IGE fan for the application ensures temperature uniformity, minimizes cycle time, and maintains process uniformity.
Sealed, direct-drive AC motors paired with forward-curved multi-blade wheels are commonly used in this application because they provide a vacuum-quality seal and efficient, high flow rates.
Glass Heating, Bending & Annealing
Glass is often heated to 1100°F (600°C) in annealing processes and up to 1300°F (700°C) in preparation for bending processes. Effective convective heat transfer is critical to ensuring temperature uniformity and minimizing cycle times.
The right, high-quality IGE fan for the application ensures temperature & process uniformity and minimizes cycle times. In specialty glass and high purity applications, IGE’s innovative shaft sealing methods and direct-drive motors with vacuum-quality seals are critical to maintaining the protective atmosphere and process parameters.
