High temperature sealed, drive-drive motors are often used to drive high temperature fan wheels in severe duty applications, whether that be high temperatures, corrosive atmospheres, high pressures, or vacuum furnace applications. They also enable highly compact fan unit designs that are ideal for space constrained environments. These units solve the problem of bearing, seal and lubrication failures due to heat conducted through the shaft, shaft bending, and general overheating of the entire drive unit due to inadequate air cooling.
IGE has been designing and manufacturing direct drive sealed AC motors since first introducing the design concept in 1955 with the Kaybee Engineering brand name. Often referred to as ‘K-B’, ‘KB’, or ‘'Kaybee’ motors, IGE offers designs from 1/3 HP up to and exceeding 150 HP, with single speed and multispeed designs rated to operation up to 2100°F (1150°C). The most common operating speeds are 1800 RPM and 3600 RPM with operating voltages of 230V or 460V at 60 Hz – please consult our Engineering and Installation Data for specific offerings (e.g., 25 Hz operating frequency) or contact our engineering team.
K-B motors are commonly seen in glass tempering, carburizing, nitriding, cyaniding, clean annealing, and vacuum heat treating applications.
